Bridal Makeup Beauty Tips

That's me on my wedding day

That's me on my wedding day
Tis the seasons for the sacred "I Do." Whether you're a bride, bridesmaid, or guest whose summer calendar is clogged with save-the-dates, women all have the same goal in mind for this special event -- to look picture-perfect. Between the flashes, gowns and aisles, a wedding night is like the Oscars, and you wouldn't dare show up to that gala unprepared. I rode my own wedding wave a mere seven months ago when I got married. Being that makeup is my thing, there was no way in hell my face wasn't going to last from my grand entrance to my night cap. With the help of Ethian Hugo, the incredibly talented makeup artist who has worked with taste makers such as Carolina Herrera, we created a classic bridal look that I loved. These are the tips and products he used to create my look that I can personally say kept me looking like a fresh-faced bride from the first pictures at 2pm to the last dance at 2am.

Step 1: Foundation Do: use a very fine liquid like Nars Balanced Foundation, Mont Blanc. To avoid caking, apply with a sponge, which will absorb excess product. Then set the foundation by brushing on a microfine powder that matches the skin. Ethian usedMAC Mineralize Skin Finish Powder. Don't: use thick, heavy foundation. Skin should look like skin so if you have freckles like I do, they should show through. Step 2: Eyes Do: When working with more than one shadow, apply the lightest shade on the inner lid that's closest to the nose and work outwards with the medium shade on the middle of the lid and the darkest on the outside. Ethian applied a combo of MAC eyeshadows including woodwinked, bronze frost, smut velvet and shroom, which he used as a highlighter and tapped underneath the brow bone. Don't: rub your eyes before or after they've been dressed. You'll not only smear your shadow, but rubbing will leave you wishing you had Visine. Liner: Eye liners are like cable companies. Too many either don't show up like they're supposed to, don't perform as they should or have some type of flaw that gives you reason to complain. However, Shiseido Black Cream Eyeliner defies the odds. The cream liner doesn't smudge, has a smooth consistency so it's easy to work with and doesn't fade. I loved wearing it on my wedding day. Mascara: For special occasions, a wedding day definitely qualifies, thick, long lashes are a must. Unless you were blessed with them naturally, false lashes will get you the beautiful dramatic eyes that smile at us on every magazine cover. Ethian first applied Nars Mascara in black orchid. Next, he adheredArdell DuraLash, Flare Short Black individual lashes to my lash line starting at the outside and working in.

Step 3: Brows Do: use a shade that's one shade deeper than your natural hair color to get a finished brow that frames the face. Ethian chose Bobbi Brown Eyeshadow in birchand used a slightly wet brush to apply the color. The darkest part of the brow should be at the middle to end so keep the color soft and light on the part of the brow that's closest to the nose. He says that if the inner brow is too dark, it can make you look angry.Don't: touch your skin when applying or else the brow will look contrived. Step 4: Cheeks Do: go for a blush that gives your face life and smile to find the apples of your cheeks. I wanted my skin to have a soft, dewy glow. To achieve this finish, Ethian usedGiorgio Armani micro-fil loose powder and topped it with the best-selling Nars Blush in orgasm. If you haven't experienced orgasm yet, it's worth getting your hands on. Don't: apply in a straight line or else you'll have streaks. Stick to circular motions. Step 5: LipsDo: scrub your lips to rid flakes and follow with a lip conditioner such as Jo Malone's before starting your makeup. A smooth, hydrated mouth will allow lipstick to go on easier and stick to your pout better, which means fewer touch ups. There's an art to creating a soft lip. Oftentimes, a light color looks pretty in person but then comes off blah in photos. On the flip side, deeper shades can appear too harsh. Ethian struck the perfect balance using a combo of products to create my putty-pink lips. First, he lined and filled in my lips withSorme Cosmetics Smearproof Lipliner in tease 19. Next up was gloMinerals gloSheer lipstick in tahiti, which was layered with a dab of Bareminerals gloss in cupcake for a pinch of shine. Don't: lick or bite your lips incessantly no matter how nervous you are. These actions will cause chapping and irritation.

Plan Your Wedding At Costco

diamond ringHave you heard the latest trend? Guys (actually, well-to-do men) are gifting their girls diamonds from Costco!
Before you huff and snuff, listen to this.
I know of a guy who bought a diamond ring for his wife onCostco.com. He’s not a cheap dude. In fact, he has a great job. He paid $1900 for the ring. Then took it to a jeweler, and it was appraised at $3400. Not a bad deal! The best part is that his wife is obsessed with it and says the new bauble sparkles even more than her engagement ring.
Warming up to the idea yet? Just wait until you read this:
My very good friend was debating on what to do for his wife for her birthday, which also happens to be on Mother’s Day. This year, flowers just weren’t going to cut it. After hearing about the great experience our mutual friend had with the diamond ring (see above story), he decided to check out the jewelry on Costco.com. He expected to find cheesy options that would not meet his wife’s expensive taste. To his surprise, the designs were impressive, and a diamond tennis bracelet caught his eye. Usually a thorough researcher when it comes to purchasing a big-ticket item, he found the website incredibly easy to shop. All he had to do was select the stone cut, bracelet length and overall carat size, and he was able to pick out exactly what he wanted in minutes. He entered his credit card info, hit send and 2 days later the impulse buy arrived complete with stone certification papers. I’ve personally seen the bracelet, and it’s truly beautiful. He got extra points for this gift, and she’s been showing off her new bling.
If the idea of buying diamonds and toilet paper at the same store still doesn’t sit right, Costco says they do not compromise quality of the stones for the great price: they have gemologists that check every diamond to guarantee the clarity to be VS-2 (Very Slightly Included) and color to be I (Near Colorless) or better.
And it gets better. Once you say “yes” to your man, you can say “I do” with Costco.
wedding dressYou can literally get everything for your wedding (flowers, cake, alcohol) at superstore prices, plus you can plan your honeymoon there, too! The retailer recently launched “Costco Travel,” which is essentially a travel agency that helps you score deals on hotel packages and cruises. And I’m not just talking all-inclusive properties.
Oh, and let’s not forgot the most important component to your wedding day – your dress. Costco has an exclusive bridal line by designer Kirstie Kelly. The Kristie Kelly Signature collection features six different styles with classic silhouettes and quality fabrics like my favorite one for $900 shown here. The dresses range from $699 to $1,399 and are made in petite and plus sizes. The wedding gowns go on a “road show,” which means they’re at different Costco locations around the country at different times of the year. I would recommend making an appointment beforehand to ensure you get the attention you deserve. P.S.

The Beauty Girl Becomes A Mommy!

My little man has kept me busier than ever, so to help save my sanity during this time of sleepless nights, my go-to intern Cody has come to the rescue. Her first post is coming soon! P.S. I have to give a shout-out to Amanda Hein, who snapped the below maternity photo to commemorate this special time in our lives.

Coolest iPhone Cases

The iPhone is arguably the most revolutionary product Apple has released in its existence. With nearly 50 million iPhones sold to date, there are hundreds, perhaps even thousands, of iPhone cases that have been created. In this article, we have compiled some of the most creative ones, but also a few of the wackiest and most unusual iPhone cases that we have ever seen. The iMeshi iPhone 4 Food Cases both protect and disguise your mobile as a tasty snack from bacon and eggs to sushi rice. The cases are designed to resemble some of Japan’s most popular food and are currently are still in the manufacturing stage.

Octopus iPhone charger sticks to the back of the phone

iPhone users out there already know that the phone’s battery tends to run out pretty fast, and as such, external battery solutions are quite common. If you don’t want something that slips onto your iPhone like the Mophie Juice Pack, you could always try for the strangely named Octopus battery pack. This battery pack connects to your iPhone via the Dock Connector at the bottom, but is capable of being stuck to the back of the phone via the 8 suction cups built into it, ensuring that you won’t have a battery pack dangling from the bottom of your iPhone. The Octopus features a built-in 1,500mAh battery and will set you back $30.
